long long ago whimsygrrrl arrived on this big ol’ rock with a mission. make art, remember who i am, be silly, kick ass, and take names. ok not as much the kicking ass part but god forbid a girl asserts herself.

that’s part of what inspired whimsygrrrl in the first place. we live in unprecedented and uncertain times *sigh* unfortunately. in history, art is used as a tool of resistance. it does a lot for us as a people. it inspires, it guides, it expresses, and it sheds light in dark scary places. in times like these where there are more dark, scary places than not, whimsy is one of our most accessible forms of resistance. when the powers that be want us to be complacent, malleable, easily swayed, and perpetually terrified; joy is resistance. being deeply human is resistance.

i create my art with a few things in mind. i ask myself these 3 questions: would i think this was cool when i was a kid? does it feel good to put this into the world? does it reflect who i truly am? if i answer yes to these 3 questions i am set! i create art as means of healing first and foremost. for connecting to my inner child and connecting with the world around me. nothing brings me more joy than interacting with someone who was moved by a piece of art i made. that means that person truly SEES a part of my soul. while that can feel pretty vulnerable at times, it’s mostly freaking cool B)
